Our mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.Â
We currently support Team 1731 - a FIRST Robotics Competition team based in Fauquier County. FIRST Robotics is a global Robotics program with over 4000 teams competing annually. Team 1731 has been successful not only at the local level but also competing at the World Championship.
Since the team was started in 2006, we have seen 50% of our students go on to a STEM-related university program. Hands-on robotics is a fun way to help students understand the technology and remove some of the mystique of engineering and technology while demonstrating the practical hands-on problem-solving that STEM seeks to address.
Virginia STEM is a fully qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit.
